Coupling Between Alfvén Wave and Kelvin–Helmholtz Waves in the Low Latitude Boundary Layer

The Kelvin–Helmholtz (KH) instability of magnetohydrodynamic surface waves at the low latitude boundary layer is examined using both an eigenfrequency analysis and a time-dependent wave simulation. includes effects sheared flow Alfvén velocity gradient. When magnetosheath flows are perpendicular to ambient magnetic field direction, unstable KH that propagate obliquely direction occur when Mach number higher than threshold. Including shear transition between magnetosphere leads secondary (driven by flow) coupled resonant wave. There remarkable differences primary waves, including frequency, growth rate, ratio transverse compressional components. energy concentrated near frequency with lower waves. Although rate threshold condition lower, so it expected these types will dominate number. Because component stronger more efficient transfer from inner also predicted.
